5 Resources to Help You Pay for Hearing Aids

Jul 24, 2019 | News

If you’re having difficulty getting coverage for your hearing aids, other types of financial assistance exist. Here’s what you need to know about affording your hearing aids.

At an average cost of $1,000 to $3,500, hearing aids don’t come cheap. The price of hearing aids shouldn’t be enough to stop you or a loved one from enjoying a better quality of life with hearing-assistive technology. Sometimes, private insurers won’t cover the cost of hearing aids without a letter of medical necessity or additional evidence supporting a claim. If you’re having difficulty getting coverage for your hearing aids, other types of financial assistance exist. Here’s what you need to know about affording your hearing aids.

Medicaid/Medicare Coverage

If you meet certain income and resource requirements, you may be eligible to use Medicaid, either as a primary or secondary carrier. This federally-funded insurance program helps low-income adults, children, disabled persons, and pregnant women access quality healthcare.

For older adults, Medicare coverage is also an option. If you qualify for Medicare, it’s possible that it will pay for a portion or the entirety of your hearing aid costs, but keep in mind that it may only apply to certain models.

Veteran’s Discounts

If you’re a United States veteran, you may be able to qualify for a discount on your hearing aids. Our office will gladly assist you in identifying financial assistance programs that you may qualify for.

Payment Plans

If you’re unable to get hearing aids covered by private insurance or subsidized by government plans, we do have payment plans available. Our billing department will work with you to identify a payment plan that works for your budget.

Exploring Other Options

If you’re receiving denials of coverage from a government or private insurer, it might be because of the model you’ve chosen. Electing a more basic model, still appropriate for your degree and type of hearing loss, may lead to a claim approval. We understand how insurance companies work and can guide you through all the options available, helping you find a model that might be covered by insurance.

Grants From Local Organizations

Some national, state, and local organizations, such as Kiwanis or Lions Club, offer need-based financial assistance to pay for hearing aids. The application process will vary depending on the type of hearing device you need and the organization you’re asking for help. For more information on these programs, contact the agency directly and ask about their policies.

No one should have to go without hearing aids simply because they cannot afford them. Many financial resources are available to you – check out one of these programs or talk to our office if you have any questions about affording your hearing aids.
